ABOUT ME
Every painting, in one form or another, contains a disguise. The message and essence of the images lie hidden within the finest details and nuances. I express human characteristics, attitudes, and moods by the means of irony and grotesque humor. Hidden behind the bright colors and the gaiety of the clearly arranged compositions there lie a profound message and thought-provoking content.
Angels dressed in red with black hair and black wings or wearing a hat and Hasidic garb; grim and nasty-looking hares; devils with enormous twisted horns – or adorned with peacock feathers. I aim to represent the elements of reality, especially paradox situations, mixed together with mythical and surreal creatures, embedded in a unique symbolism.
Playfulness, mystery, cumulative purport, grotesque humour and self/irony reside in the figures. Products of the rescue phantasy are, however, the critical formulation of reality, and the phenomena of life.
Jewish mystic, religious culture is presented in my characters and on the level of used symbols as well, however, it doesn’t mean that they should be interpreted only on this level.
I write and paint tales and stories wherein as in my pictures everyday reality is composed together with my own experiences, impregnated into the subtle of fantasy. The stories are verbal complements and equivalents of the pictures and vice versa the pictures are visual concentrations of the stories.
White, orange-golden-yellow, red, brown, pink became determinative on my paintings. These colors are like live energies, they dispose with own existence and a symbolic meaning: they express vitality, power, cheerfulness and the love for life.
These colors assign the clearance of the pictures. The figures, real and fictitious: humans and animals, toys, clowns and various inconceivable creatures, constitute a complex system of symbols together with the colors. White is the light itself, that unites all of the colors. In the virtually homogeneous white background, pale color spots glimmer, while the energetic touches of the abundantly applied paint, produce a various and exciting plastic effect
